Definition
Documentation of a patient allergy or intolerance that is currently active, or was historically active. Typically, “allergy” refers to a patient’s propensity for immune system response to a substance and “intolerance” refers to a patient’s propensity for any other adverse reaction to a substance; but the precise distinction between these two concepts might differ from provider to provider.
Purpose
Typically used to identify patients with particular allergies or intolerances. Is not currently used in any Synthetic Objects or Data Marts.
Related Objects

Detailed Narrative of Logic
- Allergy or intolerance list entry records from all contributing source systems, having been mastered and conformed to the appropriate semantic and structural standards as necessary, are collected in Allergy / Intolerance Entries, Precursor 1 (All Source Records).
- The natural object Allergy / Intolerance Entries then removes source system records flagged as deleted or with duplicate identifier values – keeping the record with the most recent Last Updated Datetime value – and generates a Document ID value for each remaining record (with document type token AILE).
- If a record is missing its Allergy / Intolerance Description, a replacement value is obtained, if possible, from the ICD-10-CM Long Description field on ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Code Reference, using the original record’s ICD-10-CM Code as the lookup value.
