Articles are reference documents in the Compass knowledge base. They provide the AI with domain-specific context — such as methodology descriptions, policy summaries, or analytic guidelines — that it can consult during sessions via the SEARCH_ARTICLES and READ_ARTICLE tools.
Structure
Each article has three fields:
- Name — A unique identifier for the article.
- Summary — A brief description of the article's contents (single paragraph, no line breaks).
- Body — The full article text.
Managing Articles
Articles are managed under Configuration > Articles in the Compass sidebar.
Creating an Article
Click New Article to open the article form. Enter a name, optional summary, and body. The summary field automatically strips line breaks on blur to enforce the single-paragraph convention. Click Create Article to save.
Editing an Article
Click any article in the list to open it for editing. Update the fields and click Save Article.
Deleting an Article
Open an article for editing and click Delete Article. Deleted articles no longer appear in the article list or in the AI's article listing during sessions.
Using Articles in Sessions
To make articles available to the AI during a session, enable the Search Articles and/or Read Article tools on the diagnostic or diagnostic definition. When either tool is enabled:
- The system prompt includes a listing of all available articles (name and summary) so the AI knows what reference material exists.
- The AI can use SEARCH_ARTICLES to find articles by keyword and see contextual snippets.
- The AI can use READ_ARTICLE to retrieve the full contents of a specific article.
See the Tools Reference for details on how these tools work.
Library Sync
Articles can be synced from the Ursa Health canonical library, alongside diagnostic definitions and explorer personas. The Library tab under Configuration shows which articles match, are missing, or have diverged from the library version. See Configuration — Library for details.
Access Control
- Authenticated users can view the article list.
- Compass Authors (and above) can create, edit, and delete articles.
