Kidney Transplantation Surgery Encounter

Definition

An encounter with a kidney transplantation surgery performed. The surgery is identified via MS-DRG, ICD-10-PCS, or CPT/HCPCS procedure code associated with a hospital inpatient admission encounter.

Purpose

Used in the URSA-CKD module to identify patients with ESRD and to characterize the circumstances under which the patient progresses to ESRD status.

Detailed narrative of logic

1. As implemented in Kidney Transplantation Surgery Encounters, first, all documents with a qualifying kidney transplantation surgery ICD-10-PCS, CPT/HCPCS, or MS-DRG code are obtained from Document Aggregator for URSA-CKD Concepts using a restriction on Is Kidney Transplant Code = 1 (see value set KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION for value types ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and MS-DRG).
2. These qualifying documents are then filtered down to those associated with a hospital inpatient admission encounter, as defined in the URSA-CORE logic, as implemented in Hospital Inpatient Admission Encounter Document Aggregator and Hospital Inpatient Admission Encounters.
3. The resulting collection of documents (i.e., documents for a performed kidney transplantation surgery associated with an inpatient admission) are then collapsed down to a hospital inpatient admission encounter grain size, with the qualifying surgery ICD-10-PCS, CPT/HCPCS, and/or MS-DRG codes published.
